BIG IDEA | ‘The goal is to stabilize housing prices while having housing sector grow.’

Fund Manager: ‘Could very briefly discuss about what we expect in terms of the intensity of the easing in the property sector next year?’

  • ‘My impression is that as far as housing is concerned, the intention is stabilization - not growth or not trying to boost the property sector.’
  • ‘But if you need to achieve a certain level of growth, and simply stabilize the property market, then where else do you actually push sufficiently to get to your numbers?’

Shang-Jin Wei: ‘The goal is to stabilize housing prices while having housing sector grow.’

  • ‘There's a Price; there's a Quantity. It's not about stabilizing both P and Q.’
  • ‘P will hopefully stabilize, but Q will grow.’

‘The social housing program can contribute to that.’

  • ‘And there's also some relaxation about the housing purchase policies in various cities. That is also partly to trying to avoid seeing a declining Q.’
